Last weekend Nick and I decided we would do a day trip out to Mabou. I have dreamed of visiting for years along with the renowned Red Shoe Pub!
Mabou is a little village, located on the western side of Cape Breton Island. It truly is a magical place, bustling but quint. The drive in reminded me of scenes from a movie, it was like driving into another world. The winding roads were surrounded by tall trees, different from the rest of the island. I imagine this would be a very beautiful drive during winter.
As we drove into Mabou we drove down the main stretch and made it to The Red Shoe Pub, I could not believe it. Finally I was about to scratch this off my bucket list!!
We decided to park and enjoyed a walk through town. We also popped into St. Mary's Catholic Church, which was beautiful. The church opened back in 1897!
After enjoying a walk through the area we had worked up an appetite so back to The Red Shoe Pub we went.
Walking up those steps to the pub honestly felt surreal! We were greeted inside and sat down at a big table by the old piano, which is a must see if you visit.
I looked around at the old floors and the layout, I could picture this place all lit up with drink, dance and music! I'll have to return again someday to witness this I think. The food was good and the beer was cold, I had the seafood chowder that came with a lovely roll on the side.
After we enjoyed our time at the pub we decided to visit beautiful West Mabou Beach. Oh my goodness, this is a must see if you have never been. I admit, the road was a little off the beaten path, but it is so worth the view!
West Mabou Beach was a long stretch of beautiful soft sand, a great swimming beach I think!
We were totally wiped after the drive out, which took about an hour and a half from Sydney.
We enjoyed a walk through town, a bite to eat at The Red Shoe Pub and then a long walk at West Mabou Beach. A perfect day in my books and I already cannot wait to return!
